Dr. Victoria Baines began her stint as a Senior Research Fellow at The British Foreign Policy Group in 2023, in addition to her work as an online trust and safety and cybersecurity expert. Having received her education from institutes like Trinity College, Oxford and the University of Nottingham, where she received her PhD., Victoria is today also a Visiting Fellow at Bournemouth University and has held similar positions, such as Visiting Research Fellow and Visiting Associate at the University of Oxford and Oxford Internet Institute respectively in the past. As the IT Livery Company Professor of IT at Gresham College Victoria is adept at transferring her supreme skills of crisis management and response, negotiation, intelligence analysis, strategy delivery and coaching to her students. Victoria has also been a Principal Analyst for SOCA and Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre and a Team Lead of Strategy and Prevention at the European Cybercrime Centre for Europol. In these roles she was responsible for analysing cyber threats that came the EU’s way, to put it succinctly. These prime roles were entrusted to Victoria because of her sheer excellence in the field, given that she is the pioneer behind EU’s flagship threat assessment for cybercrime programme- iOCTA. A revered name in the field, Victoria often contributes to BBC, CNN and other broadcast media, sharing her views and knowledge on the subjects of cybersecurity.
