Kate Richardson-Walsh has enjoyed a successful career as a hockey player, formerly a member of the Great Britain Senior Hockey team. Having claimed countless victories, Kate finished her career with 375 appearances, 49 goals and 19 medals marking her significance as a player in the history books as the most capped women in Great Britain. Now retired from sport, Kate is booked as a speaker for corporate events, speaking on topics such as leadership, communication, change management, ambition, goal setting and more.
Best known for her hockey career, Kate was formerly the Captain of the Senior GB Hockey team for 13 years. During this time she helped lead her team to various significant victories, with her most prominent being Gold at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. Other prominent victories of Kate’s include a Bronze Olympic medal, two Silver Commonwealth Games medals and a Gold EuroHockey Nations Championships medal. She has also claimed medals at the Champions Challenge, Champions Trophy, World Cup and European Indoor Championships, displaying both her talents of leadership and impeccable teamwork. During her playing career, Kate was also elected as a member of the British Olympic Association Athlete’s Commission, the European Olympic Athlete’s Commission and awarded the England Hockey Member of Honour.
Kate also played hockey domestically, passionately playing for Reading and acting as the team's assistant coach. She has also played for the teams of Klein Zwitserland, SCHC, Leicester and Slough and has also played as part of the Jaffa Super Sixes indoor hockey season. Her illustrious playing career earned her many awards, such as the Hockey Writers Club Player of the Year in 2003, 2007 and 2012. She has also claimed the 2007 Great Britain Hockey Athlete of the Year, been appointed as MBE and OBE and been inducted into the European Hall of Fame. She has also been awarded the National Lottery Spirit of Sport Award 2017, an Honorary Doctorate from Brunel University and an Honorary Fellowship of Liverpool John Moores University.
After retiring from playing, Kate has ventured into coaching- as the Joint Head Coach of Hampstead & Westminster Ladies XI. She has also become an Ambassador for Pitchero, Women’s Sport Trust and Access Sport. Also dedicating time to punditry, Kate is now often booked as a speaker for a range of corporate events.
