Bobby first found his love for maths whilst studying at university, graduating from the Royal Holloway University of London in the subject. Bobby did not go straight into teaching, instead deciding to join Lehman Brothers as a trader. His time at the firm saw Bobby work through their financial crisis, and ultimately file for bankruptcy. Bobby then worked as a Chartered Accountant at Pricewaterhouse Coopers, nurturing his love of mathematics further.
After leaving accounting Bobby decided to return to education, studying and obtaining a Masters degree in education at the University of Cambridge. Since then, Bobby has joined the teaching profession, helping children to learn maths at schools such as Chesterton Community College and East London Science School. Highly passionate in his proficiency as a maths teacher, Bobby is championing the improvement of maths literacy across the country. Particularly concerned with the acceptance of poor mathematical ability in the UK, Bobby is making it his mission to motivate students to take a stronger interest in the subject.
In 2017 Bobby featured on the programme University Challenge, as the Emmanuel College team captain. Bobby soon caught the eye of the public, famed for his charming and enthusiastic performance he began to trend on Twitter. Whilst starring on University Challenge Bobby met Eric Monkman, with whom he would later go on to form a strong broadcasting partnership. In 2017 the pair were fortunate to receive broadcasting space for their own radio show, titling the broadcast Monkman and Seagull’s Polymathematical Adventure. Continually gaining in popularity, the pair were granted their own television programme in 2018- Monkman & Seagull’s Genius Guide to Britain. Bobby has also published several books, such as The Life Changing Magic of Numbers and The Monkman and Seagull Quiz Book.
A strong advocate for education, Bobby champions the improvement of studies for all. In particular, he is passionate about investment in public libraries, working in close partnership with the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals. Bobby’s versatility as a public speaker sees him deliver at all manner of events. From schools and literary festivals to after-dinner speaking engagements and event hosting, Bobby is charming and passionate in each event he is hired for. He has previously delivered a TED talk, titled The Magic of Numbers: Why Everyone Should Love Maths to further advocate his passion for mathematics. Able to deliver an incredible keynote, Bobby is frequently seen travelling the country to encourage and enthuse students, previously delivering at events for Pearson Education. Personable and knowledgeable, Bobby is the perfect youth and education speaker for a range of events.
