Celia Hodent, a whizz in the gaming industry, is best known for her former position as the Director of User Experience at Epic Games where she worked on the highly-revered game Fortnite. As a Game UX Consultant, Celia specialises in implementing cognitive science and psychology whilst developing games and products with the intention to make them better and ultimately more appealing to users. Available to speak at a range of corporate events, Celia (who is also the Founder and Chair of the Game UX Summit) is beneficial if you want to learn more about improving user experience, cognitive science, gamification or simply put playful learning, implicit biases, inclusion and the metaverse.
Throughout her career Celia has worked with some of the biggest organisations and talents in the gaming and tech industry, having over 10 years’ worth of experience in UX development. Celia also completed her PhD in Psychology and then worked as a Product Developer and Pedagogical Quality Manager at Vtech where she worked on the development of educational games such as Disney Pixar VFlash Cars and the Disney Princess Laptop. She then stepped into the world of videogames, joining Ubisoft HQ in 2008 as a Strategic Innovation Lab Manager. This was a Think Tank that directly reported to Ubisoft’s CEO. From there Celia joined the Ubisoft Montreal Studio which is where the Assassin’s Creed franchise was birthed as a Playtest Project Manager and worked on the Rainbow 6 franchise as well as Driver San Francisco.
In 2012, Celia progressed to working at LucasArt in San Francisco where she was the UX Lead and worked on the Star Wars games and other games for iOS. The following year saw Celia move on to being a part of the Epic Games team where she eventually rose to the position of Director of User Experience, working on games like Fortnite, Battle Breakers, Paragon, Spyjinx and Unreal Engine 4. Celia has also earned the title of Bestselling author and has published a total of 4 books, earning critical acclaim for her book The Gamer’s Brain. She is also a member of the Foresight Committee at CNIL.
