Mark Rabkin is Facebook’s Vice President of Oculus and AR/VR Experiences. He began his career at Facebook back in 2007, and has worked across many divisions. Mark can now be booked to speak on topics like AR/VR tech, advertisement, business platforms and software engineering at a range of corporate events.
Mark studied at University of California where he received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He went on to receive his M.S. in Computer Science from Stanford University focusing on distributed systems and high performance. At the very beginning of his career, Mark worked on chip designing and software building for different elements of the chip at Intel.
Mark also worked at Google for 4 years as a senior software engineer. In this time, he co-created the Google Movies search product. The team he headed built infrastructure, whilst focusing on real-time traffic distribution between global data centres core building blocks for distributed systems.
In 2007 Mark joined Facebook. Here he was faced with challenges revolving around advertising that raised concerns about reliability, data storage, consistency, market modelling and production. As he went on, he assumed responsibility for the products and infrastructures that facilitated connections between people and businesses. It was important to Mark that ads were made more relevant, interesting, and ultimately impactful for businesses. In order to do so, Mark took 1.79B users’ needs into consideration.
Throughout his career, Mark has played an active role in innovating systems in the tech world. He is incredibly experienced and has a rich and varied background in tech, owing to his positions at Intel, Google and Facebook.
