Former British Army officer and expert in Cyber Security, Major General Jonathan Shaw is the first and former Head of Cybersecurity for the British Army. Now a leading figure in cybersecurity, Jonathan provides exceptional keynotes for all to gain key take-aways from.
Initially starting his career in the military in 1981 when he was commissioned into the Parachute Regiment of the 3rd Battalion, where he was made platoon commander. By 1997, Jonathan had been appointed Commanding Officer of 2nd Battalion. During his time in the Parachute Regiment, he was commissioned to fight wars in the Falklands, Kosovo and Iraq. Continuously rising through the ranks, Jonathan took positions as Commander of 12th Brigade in 2002, Director Special Forces in 2003, General Officer Commanding Multi-National Division (South East), Iraq in 2007, Chief of Staff at HQ Land Forces, Assistant Chief of Defence Staff in 2009.
After serving on the front-line in the British Army for three decades, Jonathan moved to the Ministry of Defence and assumed responsibility for UK cybersecurity, being the first British military person to ever take this role. In this role, Jonathan gained knowledge into geopolitical developments, terrorism, cybercrime, risk and security, digital power, militatry activity and disaster relief.
As an expert in cyber crime and security he shares his experience in various ways in order to help others learn how to prevent and manage cybercrimes. He is also the author of the highly regarded book, Britain in a Perilous World: The Strategic Defence and Security Review We Need, which goes through Jonathan's personal experience and describes how cyber security and its deference are managed and strategised.
