Terry Crews is a former NFL player turned acclaimed actor, television host and motivational speaker. Best known for his role as Terry Jeffords in the Golden Globe Award-winning comedy Brooklyn Nine Nine, he has become one of entertainment’s most recognisable personalities. Terry also hosts America’s Got Talent, where his warmth, humour and infectious energy have made him a firm audience favourite. His remarkable journey from professional sport to financial hardship and Hollywood success gives him an authentic platform from which to discuss resilience, reinvention and personal growth.
Before entering entertainment, Terry played defensive end and linebacker during six years in professional American football. His NFL career included spells with the Los Angeles Rams, San Diego Chargers and Washington Redskins, alongside time with the Philadelphia Eagles and Rhein Fire. After retiring, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in entertainment, but opportunities did not arrive immediately. Struggling financially, Terry accepted work sweeping factory floors for eight dollars an hour. At a particularly difficult moment, he asked himself how he would approach the task if somebody offered him one million dollars to complete it. By deciding to sweep with pride and excellence, he transformed his attitude towards work and began applying that same commitment to every opportunity.
Terry received his first major entertainment break on Battle Dome before establishing himself as Julius Rock in Everybody Hates Chris. He later gained international recognition as Latrell Spencer in White Chicks, President Camacho in Idiocracy and Hale Caesar in The Expendables franchise. His credits also include Deadpool 2, The Willoughbys and the hugely popular Old Spice advertising campaigns. Beyond acting, Terry is an accomplished visual artist, author and designer. He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was recognised among TIME’s 2017 Person of the Year, the Silence Breakers, after speaking publicly about sexual harassment and advocating for greater accountability.
As a motivational speaker, Terry offers far more than a conventional celebrity story. He speaks candidly about rejection, financial insecurity, addiction, masculinity, accountability and rebuilding relationships, showing audiences that achievement begins with honest self-examination. Combining the discipline of elite sport with the vulnerability gained through personal struggle, Terry encourages people to take responsibility, challenge destructive behaviours and approach every task with purpose. His humour, commanding stage presence and openness make his message both entertaining and deeply relatable.
