Born to Graham Hill, the International Formula One series racing driver, Damon grew up witnessing Graham win the Drivers' Championship in 1962 and 1968, sparking his own interest in racing. As Damon’s son, Oliver, was born with downs syndrome, Damon and his wife, Georgie, are both patrons of the highly influential Down’s Syndrome Association, which helps those living with the disability. Taking his advocacy one step further, Damon became the first patron of St. Joseph's Specialist School and College in 2008, which teaches children with severe learning disabilities.
Prior to his commitment to Formula One, Damon raced motorbikes. During this period, he won the 350 CC Clubman’s Championship at Brands Hatch, which he funded by working as a building labourer. Additionally, Damon was a dispatch rider for Special Delivery, a London company that provided him with TZ350 racing bikes. When his mother expressed concern for the safety of motorbikes, Damon moved to single seat racing, for which he showed "above-average aptitude". Graduating from British Formula Ford, after winning 6 races in a Van Diemen, Damon went on to compete in the 1985 Formula Ford Festival.
At the peak of his career, Damon raced for Williams after Riccardo Patrese stepped down, giving Damon the opportunity to take his first victory in the 1993 Hungarian Grand Prix. The racing legend, Michael Schumacher, had Damon breathing down his neck throughout the 1990s, as the pair developed a fierce rivalry for first place. In 1996, boasting eight wins, Damon took home the Championship. Damon retired in 1999, to become President of the British Racing Drivers' Club in 2006. At present, he works for Sky Sports F1, as a broadcaster.
In his public speeches, Damon is regarded as highly knowledgeable and passionate about the world of motor racing. Committed to nurturing the F1 Champion of tomorrow, his inspiring speeches spark the imagination of his audience who picture themselves in the driving seat. However, there is more to Damon’s speeches than racing, as he is also an expert in peak performance, mental resilience and persevering despite pressures.
