Chris Hines is a passionate advocate for positive environmental change, who is currently the owner of A Grain Of Sand. Sitting at the helm of the organisation, Chris has long made it his mission to empower sustainability strategies and environmental action and is now booked as a sustainability and environment speaker for corporate events.
Before becoming the owner of A Grain Of Sand, Chris was the founding Director of Surfers Against Sewage. Setting up the foundation in the 1990s, Chris was passionate to create an organisation dedicated to marine conservation, clean oceans and campaigns against ocean pollution. Sitting at the helm of the charity for a decade, Chris was then appointed as the Director of Sustainability for The Eden Project in 2001. As the Sustainability Director of The Eden Project, Chris ensured that the imitations of natural biomes complied with sustainable practices and had a positive effect on the environment. He was also responsible for the management of the ‘Waste Neutral’ concept and made sure that the Eden Project practised what they preached.
Chris’ commitments to sustainability and conservation have not gone unnoticed. He has been appointed MBE for his service and claimed the Surfers Path Green Award. He was also a runner-up for the 1999 Green Politics Award and has claimed an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Plymouth. Throughout the course of his career, Chris has had a substantial impact on the environment, previously delivering a £5 billion donation for work on the UK coastlines. Chris has also been a member of Sustainability South West and sat on the Strategic Panel of Cornwall Sustainable Energy Partnership.
Passionately spreading activism for the environment, Chris has shared his messages of encouragement on programmes such as Panorama and across the screens of the BBC World Service. Having spoken in front of Lords Select Committees and MP Ministers, Chris is now booked as a speaker for corporate events to share his passions for environmental sustainability, marine conservation and eco-friendly practices. Having been featured as a Daily Telegraph Eco Hero and appeared on BBC Newsnight, Chris Hines is widely respected as a communicator of positive environmental change and highly popular for environmental-themed events.
