Greg won over the heart's of the nation throughout the London 2012 Olympic Games, winning a gold medal and golden post box under the Rutherford brand for his hometown of Milton Keynes. The down to earth sports star and Olympian has won 6 gold medals in a career that spanned 11 years.
It began in 2005 when Greg became the youngest ever winner of the long jump at the AAA Championships. After setting a British junior record he was quickly elevated to the senior England setup where would represent them at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. He finished the race in eighth place before winning silver at the European Championships in Gothenburg the same year.
Injuries put paid to Rutherford's exciting career start for the 2007 season and he did not fare much better in the immediate years that followed, both due to injury and average form - though he did extend his personal best in 2010 and 2011. After reforming his take-off technique in 2011, Greg was back with a bang in 2012, ready to turn promise into invincibility.
In the warm up to the London 2012 Olympic Games, Greg equalled Christopher Tomlinson's British long jump record. His form continued to his home Olympic Games, where he reached the final after qualifying in fourth place. In the final he became the first British man since Lynn Davis in 1964 to win the long jump.
Greg's gold medal was one of three medals won by British athletes on a memorable day, on 04 August 2012. Greg Rutherford, Jessical Ennis and Mo Farah all won gold for it to become the first time in history that three British athletes had won gold in a single Olympic athletics session.
Greg coninued to pick up long jump golds in the World Championships, European Championships and Commonwealth Games in the years that followed, as well as adding a bronze medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. In 2013 he was appointed MBE for services to athletics. He has since featured on prime time television shows including The Cube, The Great Sport Relief Bake Off and Strictly Come Dancing. Ideal for personal appearances at both schools and corporate events, Greg Rutherford is an inspirational sports personality who is popular with audiences around the world.
