Former PE (physical education) teacher Dee is genuinely unique, she is the only woman to have sailed around the world non-stop and single-handed three times. After she managed this incredible feat the first time in 2006, Dee was awarded the MBE. Never one to sit back and admire her achievements, motivational speaker Dee has since competed in various world races. Working with team-mates in 2014-15, she broke the speed record for an all-female crewed monohull sailing around Britain and Ireland.
But why do people love to hear Dee speak at events? Is it just to relate stories about her sailing? In short, no. It’s because in order to achieve what she has, Dee has shown the ability to manage people, to deal with extreme situations, to cope with and manage conflict, to be a team leader, and to handle the rollercoaster of failure and success while recognising the thin line that often sits between the two.
Challenges are what Dee Caffari lives for and this makes her the perfect motivational speaker. What’s more, she combines her skills and determination with true compassion, working with various charities, including the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, Sail 4 Cancer and Toe in the Water, which enables injured service personnel to carry out competitive sailing.
