Jamie was encouraged by his headmaster to join Newport Harriers after witnessing his performance at the school's sports day. Therefore he began training to be the instantly recognisable athlete he is today at a very young age and has a wealth of experience and skill within athletics.
Making his debut for Team GB and Northern Ireland in 1991, Jamie travelled to Salamanca, Spain to compete at the Junior Internationals. He won the 200m with a time that beat the Welsh record before changing his distance preference to 400m.
By 1996, Jamie was competing at an Olympic standard and contributed to the silver medal quartet team that set a European record. He went on to set a Welsh indoor record of 46.13 before breaking the 12-year-old UK and Commonwealth indoor record of 45.39 at the UK trials.
Baulch won a total of 11 medals at the Olympics, Commonwealth Games, World and European Championships before beginning a new venture within the media. He hosted children’s TV series Energize! as well as featuring on A Question of Sport and BBC’s Superstars.
