Initially passionate to work as a director, Emily has always had a keen interest in the entertainment industry. Before she dedicated her time to news broadcasting she worked in Cambodia and China creating a series of documentaries, employed by the NBC Network. Spending six years in Hong Kong, Emily split her time making documentaries and working as a presenter. She covered a broad range of topics, from the collapse of tiger economies to the transfer of sovereignty over Hong Kong. Upon her return to England, she accepted the role as Business Correspondent for Sky News and later she was also part of BBC London News.
From that point on Emily established a reputation as a nationwide favourite for the BBC. She presented programmes such as BBC Breakfast, STORYfix and was also a question master on The National Lottery: Come And Have A Go. She was central to the US Election coverage back in 2012, covering the opinionated and highly-popular topic for both BBC One and the BBC News Channel. She is currently the host of Newsnight as well as providing coverage for BBC News at Five and BBC News at One.
During her tenure as a journalist, Emily has been fortunate to interview leading professionals and prominent leaders worldwide. In 2019 she interviewed Prince Andrew, discussing the relationship that he had with Jeffrey Epstein. A very topical interview, Emily received great credit after she was awarded Interview of the Year and Scoop of the Year at the 2020 RTS Television Journalism Awards. She has also previously interviewed Mark Zuckerberg for the Inside Facebook documentary, another award-winning interview as she received the 2013 Harold Wincott Business Programme of the Year Award. In 2017 she was awarded for her dedication to Newsnight earning the 2017 Broadcast Journalist of the Year Award from the London Press Club.
Spending her working career continually in the face of the general public and large audiences, Emily is no stranger to public speaking. When she’s not busy making documentaries or presenting the news, she can be found delivering a range of insightful and topical talks. Vastly experienced in topics such as current affairs, politics and business Emily is the perfect speaker for a range of corporate events across a range of sectors. She is also an adept awards host and presenter and can confidently moderate a conference.
Most recently, Emily Maitlis was inducted into the Top Speakers to Book for International Women's Day, a testament to her extraordinary career within the entertainment industry.
