Yorke scored 73 times in 232 appearances for Aston Villa FC since his 1989 debut. After 9 years at the West Midlands club, Yorke joined Manchester United FC. His £12.6 million fee was soon to look like a bargain, as Yorke had one of the most memorable debut seasons in English football history.
Almost instantly, Yorke became key to Manchester United's efforts, as they challenged on all fronts. United emerged victorious, winning the Premier League title, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League to complete an unprecedented domestic and European treble.
In the famous treble-winning season, Yorke was the league's top goalscorer with 18 goals, scoring 22 in all competitions. This included important goals against Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Juventus as they won the Champions League in dramatic fashion. He would also be named as the Premier League Player of the Season 1998–99.
Following the success of his first season, Yorke continued to forge one of football's most deadly forward partnerships with Andy Cole. He would help United to claim two further titles to make it three in a row.
Reports did the rounds that Yorke and Sir Alex Ferguson had fallen out over Yorke's relationship with supermodel, Katie Price. The summer of 2002 would see Yorke complete a £2 million move to Blackburn Rovers FC after scoring an impressive 65 goals in 147 games in a Manchester United shirt.
Reuniting with Andy Cole, Yorke scored 13 goals to help Blackburn Rovers to a sixth-place finish and UEFA Cup spot. He would go on to have spells at Birmingham City FC, Sydney FC and Sunderland FC where he would become assistant manager on his retirement.
Throughout his professional career, Yorke would also prove to be a key player for his national team, Trinidad and Tobago. With 19 goals in 72 international caps, Yorke is the nation's 9th highest scorer in history. He was recognised for his role in guiding Trinidad and Tobago to the 2006 FIFA World Cup and was made Sports Ambassador by the nation. He was also the assistant manager during qualification for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
A staunch supporter of the West Indies cricket team and a charitable advocate, Yorke has competed in the London Marathon, befriended cricket legend, Brian Lara and featured as a pundit for Sky Sports. As a popular football speaker, Dwight Yorke offers incredible stories of his time in sport.
