He wanted to know the purpose of playing a certain way and what it was meant to achieve. George reckons this is why he took to coaching so well. He has always had a keen interest in how a group of players with a wide range of skills and abilities could be moulded to work together successfully.
While he was the forwards coach for Saracens Under-21s – aged just 21 himself – Chuter helped out coaching in local schools and clubs. When he moved to Leicester, the motivational speaker coached at Stamford and Oakham schools, at the Leicester Tigers Academy, and at local clubs Nuneaton and Rugby Lions. As George puts it, this experience taught him that “coaching is about far more than just winning”.
He says: “Coaching is also about helping your players to improve as individuals, to improve as a team, and to develop and uphold the core values of the game – teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline, and sportsmanship.”. It is this level of understanding that has made Chuter such a popular motivational speaker.
