Neil Martin is the Founder and Director of Random Logic and is well known for being a leading Formula One strategist who has pioneered computer science technology in Formula One, using Game Theory and Monte Carlo techniques to present more realistic race outcomes under risk events. Drawing on his 30 years of experience, he currently provides bespoke analytics, solutions, and consultations for various prominent clients in the motorsport world. Some of the most notable series Neil has consulted for include Aston Martin in DTM, HWA Mercedes, Nascar, Indycar, Formula One and Formula E. As such Neil is a proficient speaker with an abundance of experience and knowledge in developing software and using analytical technology in motorsports.
Neil holds a BSc in Mathematics with Computer Science and an MSc in Operational Research from the University of Southampton. Fresh out of university Neil was able to convince McLaren Racing to sponsor his idea for a race strategy project. Extremely impressed with his project, McLaren Racing offered him a job, where he was responsible for the strategic development of technology for race strategies, and he played an integral role in developing advanced software that provided immediate access to data about specific car components whilst on the track. In the 2005 Monaco Grand Prix, Neil played a critical role in Kimi Raikkonen winning the race when he made a strategic decision during a safety car incident. This incident propelled Neil to fame which led to him becoming a highly sought after Formula One strategist.
Neil joined Red Bull Racing in 2007 after he was headhunted for the role of Chief Strategist. Building on his previous success, in the 2009 Chinese Grand Prix, Neil made a strategic decision which helped create Red Bull Racing’s first win and a historic 1-2 finish. In 2011 he went on to join Ferrari as the Head of Strategy after they had a disastrous 2010 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, resulting from poor strategic decisions.
As a well-respected strategist in Formula One, Neil has worked closely with World Champions including Sebastian Vettel, Mika Hakkinen, Kimi Raikkonen, Fernando Alonso, David Coulthard, Felipe Massa, and Mark Webber. He has also worked with independent journalists and for well-known TV channels such as Channel 4 and Sky Movistar, providing analytical insight on race events.
