Nicola Adams is without a doubt Great Britain’s most successful female boxer. The first female boxer to claim Olympic Gold at the 2012 London Olympic Games, Nicola has continually paved the way for female boxers and become a role model in an often male-dominated sport. Now booked as a speaker for corporate events, Nicola is able to share the successes of her boxing career along with her passions for diversity, inclusion and LGBT+ acceptance.
Nicola was destined to be a boxing star from the word go. In 2001, she became the first female boxer to represent England- but it was not until two years later that she became English Amateur Champion. Her first international title came when she took the Silver medal at the European Championships of 2007. After claiming victories in the European Amateur Championships, Nicola took home her greatest win- becoming the very first female boxer to win Gold at the Olympics. She also competed at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, where she became the first British boxer to defend an Olympic title in 92 years as she claimed another Gold for her medal tally.
Having retired from boxing due to injury in 2019, Nicola is widely remembered as the only female boxer in history to have claimed titles at the Olympics, Commonwealth Games, European and World Championships. At the end of her boxing career, she had claimed eight Gold medals and four silver medals, solidifying her prominence in the sporting world with a nomination for BBC Sports Personality of the Year, the first female award from the Boxing Writers Club of Great Britain and appointment of MBE and OBE for her services to boxing.
Nicola has also made headlines as part of the first same-sex couple on Strictly Come Dancing. Joined by professional dancer Katya Jones, the pair wowed audiences with their quick footsteps before they, unfortunately, had to withdraw from the competition due to testing positive for Covid-19. An inspirational role model of the LGBT+ community, Nicola is openly lesbian and often uses her platform to create awareness of the abuse that she continues to receive due to her sexuality. She has also been named as number one on the DIVA Power List of the UK’s Most Eminent Lesbian and Bisexual Women and claimed 1st position on the 101 Most Influential LGBT People in Britain list by The Telegraph.
Now booked as a speaker, Nicola is hired to share the successes of her boxing career and how she has continually paved the way for women in a male-dominated sport. From being the first woman to claim an Olympic Gold in boxing to being in the first same-sex couple on Strictly, Nicola has made it her mission to break free of stereotypes and is passionate to raise awareness of inequalities and discrimination. When looking for a speaker who is passionate about diversity, inclusion and acceptance, Nicola Adams is a perfect choice for a range of corporate events.
Most recently, Nicola Adams was inducted into the Top Speakers to Book for International Women's Day, commending her inspiring sporting talent.
