Jeremy first forged his professional reputation as an actor and filmmaker. Joining the Royal Shakespeare Company aged just 17, and went on to perform professionally for a decade. In 1994 Jeremy decided to found P.U.R.E Productions, a film making company where he would start his career as a filmmaker. Jeremy then began to make documentaries, beginning the creation of the Peace One Day documentary in 1998. Jeremy was passionate to create change in the world, promoting the importance of peace and hoping that officials would recognise his ideas. In 1999 Jeremy founded Peace One Day, a non-profit organisation with the desire to create one day of the year where each and every war-torn country ceased fire and held a day of peace. The United Nations had already established such a day, but there was confusion over which day it fell on. After persuasion from Jeremy’s organisation, the United Nations General Assembly declared that the 21st of September would mark the International Day of Peace every year.
After establishing his organisation, Jeremy continued to advocate the importance of world-wide peace. The Peace One Day documentary received much attention, and it was premiered at the esteemed Edinburgh Film Festival and shown on the BBC. The documentary was later premiered in North America, with famous faces such as Angelina Jolie and Jonny Lee Miller fronting the premiere in support of International Day of Peace. Continuing his advocacy further, Jeremy paired with the BBC to produce The Day After Peace film. The film highlighted the topical subject of Polio, showing vaccinations for the disease in Afghanistan.
Throughout his career, Jeremy has been highly rewarded for his commitment to a peaceful world. In 2008 he received the 2008 Campaigner of the Year award and the Cinema for Peace Award for the Most Inspirational Film of the Year. Later in 2010 he was rewarded with the Wateler Peace Prize from the Carnegie Foundation. He has also been the recipient of the Lennon-Ono Grant for Peace, Champions of Peace Award and the Africa Peace Award.
