In 1997, Susan completed a BA in Political Science at Penn State University, completing her studies in 1983. Moving on to a graduate degree, she earned an MSc in Information Science at Drexel University, from 1983 to 1985 where she graduated with a respectable qualification. After completing her Masters degree, she started an 8 year position as a Senior Lecturer at Nottingham Trent University, where she taught Computing in Social Sciences as a faculty member of the Law, Economics and Social Sciences department.
After finishing her career in teaching, Susan became a Consultancy Manager at BT in 1997. In this role, she worked for their Internet division for Small Businesses in the UK as a Systems Integration and Consultancy Manager. Leaving the company in 1999, Susan then spent a year as an Ecommerce Programme Manager at Capital One, leaving the company in 2000. From November 2018 until present day, she is the acting Chair of The Creative Quarter, a company in partnership with Nottingham Trent University and Nottingham City Council, to encourage the growth of Nottingham’s economy through investing in creative and digital businesses.
In 2000, Susan founded her company, Hallam Internet. The company employs over 50 experts in digital marketing, serving companies both locally and internationally. As a digital marketing consultant and strategist, she advises companies on how they can capitalise on their online presence, to guarantee ROI.
A testament to her digital expertise, Susan is an accredited Google specialist, Chartered Institute of Marketing member and fellow of the Institute of Direct and Digital Marketing. Between 2012 and 2018, she has been awarded 18 titles, including Top 10 Most Inspirational Agency Leaders of the Year, Creative Industries Business of the Year and Digital Business of the Year Award: Women in Business Awards. In 2013, she was honoured with the Freeman of the City of London, and an MBE in 2018, for her services to entrepreneurship and innovation. As a business speaker, she is highly celebrated for her infectious passion and engaging presenting style.
