Journalist and presenter, Afua Hagan has established an international platform for herself in the media. From reporting on CNBC to contributing to The Voice Newspaper, Afua is recognised as an expert on music, lifestyle and more. Alongside her on screen commitments, Afua is highly sought after as a keynote speaker and conference facilitator. Utilising her platform to raise awareness for the Black Lives Matter movements, and champion greater diversity, Afua offers progressive strategies for corporate inclusion and shares her personal experiences of discrimination, particularly in the workplace.
An accomplished journalist, Afua has worked for some of the UK’s leading alternative publications throughout her career. Starting out at Blackhair Magazine as an Editorial Assistant, Afua proved her passion and expertise were second to none, gaining the role of Editor within a year. More recently, she has written for the renowned Pride Magazine, Strangers & Candy, and Glam Africa Magazine. Whilst she specialises in music and fashion, Afua has gained a reputation for her exploration of Black and female issues, topics which she has written about extensively, to improve awareness. She has been honoured for her achievements in the Black Women in Business Awards.
Moving to London to launch her career, Afua attended City University, where she studied broadcast and music journalism. Breaking into the industry, Afua landed herself a role at T4 and PopWorld, before being named as a member of ITV’s 60 Minute Makeover team. Making a name for herself, Afua was soon hailed as a naturally talented presenter and journalism.
Having been featured on ITV’s This Morning, LBC Radio and Sky, Afua is a leading on-screen figure with over a decade of experience. Until recently, Afua acted as a presenter for The Beat London radio show and presented the CNBC series ‘Sustainable Energy’. Currently, Afua is a freelance presenter for Africa Media Works ad combines this position with hosting live events, such as she did for the virtual 2020 BAFTAs and appearing as a diversity expert for various news outlets.
As a keynote speaker, Afua draws on her experiences in the media to share engaging and though-provoking presentations. Often booked to educate on issues relating to race, gender and equality, Afua’s insights can transform the inclusion policies and culture of the corporate clients she works with, leading to lasting progressive change.
