A prominent retail entrepreneur, Michelle is best known as the co-founder of Ultimo. With the vision to ensure that women felt comfortable and their best in their clothing, Michelle founded the company to produce a range of underwear, which has now expanded to swimwear, bridal and shapewear. Michelle is also the founder of MJM International, her own company which made Ultimo possible. Michelle is also a board member of many organisations, with her most prominent being the Board of Directors for the Princes Scottish Youth Business Trust.
From a young age, Michelle was determined to make her own success as a businesswoman. Leaving education early, Michelle went on the hunt for full-time employment and was hired in marketing for Labatt brewing company. Working her way through the ranks of the company, Michelle was soon promoted to the Head of Marketing for Labatt. Unfortunately, Michelle was ultimately made redundant by the company but harnessed the unfortunate circumstance as motivation to begin her own business. She had the revelation for her underwear company when attending a dinner dance, vowing to create a more comfortable bra that still proved functional.
Since first creating her vision, Michelle’s company has gone from strength to strength and sat at the forefront of the underwear market. After selling Ultimo, Michelle has gone on to develop other products USculpt and UTan, a body lotion and self-tanner. Michelle has been awarded countless awards throughout her career, such as the World Young Business Achiever Award and Business Woman of the Year at the Corporate Elite Awards. Michelle made headlines with Ultimo, as it was the first UK lingerie brand to appear at New York Fashion Week, and she has also appeared on The Apprentice in testament to her business prowess.
Appointed Baroness Mone of Mayfair in the City of Westminster, Michelle is also widely known as a labour supporter and reviewed entrepreneurship and small businesses under the watch of Iain Duncan Smith. Outside of her commitments to politics and business, Michelle has also been a guest at many speaking events and has previously appeared speaking alongside Bill Clinton.
