British broadcasters. Initially, Rageh started out as a journalist for The Voice newspaper working as a trainee. He then decided to move to Ethiopia back in 1991, working for the BBC World Service as a freelance foreign correspondent. Upon his return to London Rageh joined the BBC full time as a journalist, working in the capital for a period of time before moving to South Africa as the BBC Africa Correspondent.
His tenure at the BBC was filled with reporting on some of the most prominent news stories. In particular, Rageh was propelled to national and international fame after he was requested to report on the Iraq invasion. Acting as the BBC Iraq Correspondent, Rageh has since authored a book titled Revolution Day which documents his time experiencing the effects of the war on Iraqi civilians. Thousands of viewers tuned in to see Rageh report from Baghdad in 2003, with his reports even syndicated across the breadth of the United States.
After working at the BBC, Rageh was then appointed by the Al Jazeera English Tv channel to act as their Middle Eastern correspondent. Situated in the London division, Rageh was given the responsibility of presenting Witness a weekly documentary series for the channel. He was also given his own series of investigative documentaries whilst with the channel, titled The Rageh Omaar Report. His stint with the channel emphasised his already credible reputation from the BBC, standing him firmly as a public favourite in the world of broadcasting.
ITV has also been fortunate to host Rageh’s impeccable presenting talent. In 2013 Rageh joined the broadcaster, accepting the role of ITV Special Correspondent and was later made the ITV International Affairs Editor. In recent years, Rageh has reported extensively on international politics in particular following American presidential elections and Brexit. He is also well known for covering global risk, current affairs and emerging economies.
Widely recognised as a leading authority on international politics, Rageh is highly sought as a conference moderator. Previously he has delivered for countless high-profile clients, such as the likes of The Department of Health, Deutsche Bank and Goldman Sachs. He has also recently chaired the Norwegian Oil Company DNV GL meeting of global leaders, crediting his suitability for conference moderation.
