Charlie Mcmurdie is best known for her remarkable career in law enforcement as the former Head of the Police National Cyber Crime Unit for the Metropolitan Police. A career which spanned over three decades, Charlie later retired at the rank of Detective Superintendent. She has gained an impressive reputation for her ability to generate strategic direction to help fight cybercrime, and the security threat this possesses within the current digital age.
Her impressive career began studying Policing and Psychology at university which ultimately led her down a path within the Metropolitan Police, where she would remain for a large portion of her career. She then later utilised her expertise and founded Achilleon Consultancy Limited, a cyber security agency which, to this day, advises both public and private sectors on minimising cyber threat. Not only has she shared her second-to-none knowledge about cyber security with colleagues within her firm, she has also been involved in several TV and Radio programmes and interviews. Charlie worked with one of the leading accountancy firms within the world, PwC, as a Consultancy Services and Senior Cyber Crime Advisor in the UK and shared her knowledge in different teams such as Forensics, Risk Assurance and Legal services, to ensure the cyber threat was minimised.
In 2011, she was granted a place on the Metropolitan Police Hall of Fame for her work in Cyber Security and this honour was further extended in 2012 when Charlie was asked to lead the cybercrime policing response for the London 2012 Olympics. She was responsible for developing and testing security plans of the highest level to ensure national security which has cemented her as one of the most revered cyber security specialists, and her efforts have been recognised with an Honorary Fellowship from the University of Warwick at their Cyber Centre.
Charlie’s work has helped shape the way both companies and governments approach cyber security. After retiring from the force, she began educating others on the threats of cybersecurity, not only with real life experiences from her past rich career, but also on how to minimise the threat of cyber security in the future.
