Hashi Mohamed travelled to Britain at the age of 9, completely unaccompanied and was raised on state benefits only. His journey from then to being a Broadcast Journalist at BBC as well as a barrister at No5 Chambers is an admirable one. Hashi is now available to deliver keynote speeches on society, social mobility, migration trends, harnessing talent, and inclusion at a range of corporate events and even chairs discussions and debates and participates on panels.
An author too, Hashi’s debut book "People Like Us" was released in 2020. This book talks about important topics such as social mobility in the UK but has a rather unique message. Contrary to the expected “anything is possible” narrative, People Like Us exposes the state of affairs in UK with regards to the divisions in society that deprive children from socially backward sects of society to have access to advantages and benefits that other children may have by default. This book was chosen as BBC 4’s Book of the Week and is said to be a handbook for anybody who wants to learn more about modern Britain. Hashi’s second book A Home of One’s Own was released in 2022.
Having attended some of the worst schools in UK as a child, graduating from the University of Hertfordshire with a Bachelor’s degree in Law and French and an MSc in Politics from the University of Oxford, was a commendable feat. Hashi also completed a Bar Vocational Course from City University of London. He then started working at BBC as a Broadcast journalist and has since then contributed to many articles in publications like The Times, Prospect Magazine and The Guardian.
Regarding his career as a law professional, Hashi served as a Pupil Barrister at 39 Essex Street and has been working as a self-employed Barrister specializing in planning and environmental law at No5 Chambers since 2012. His work has been celebrated and he won the 2011 International Criminal Court Award and the Pegasus Scholar Award by Pegasus Trust in 2014. He is also repeatedly regarded as one of the highest rated junior planning barristers in England and Wales. In 2022 Hashi ranked at number 13 in the Planning List Survey. Chamber and Partners UK 2019 has also called Hashi an “Up and Coming Junior” that works with public and private clients. If you are looking for a respected, talented and inspiring speaker who talks about inclusion, social mobility and migration trends, look no further than Hashi Mohamed!
