As well as an established sportsman, Jamie is also a keen motivational speaker who has spoken at Buckingham Palace, Hampton Court and a variety of corporate and school events.
At the age of nine, Jamie experienced a chronic pain condition in which became so severe that he was confined to a wheelchair by the time he was 12. After six years of fighting, he managed to convince his doctor to amputate his leg. After joining the Army Cadet Force in 2008, Gane’s love for sports was born. He also discovered his own mental resilience and capability to perform under pressure as well as his passion for representing his country. He went on to finish his A-Levels, all of which were highly academic and simultaneously completed a personal training qualification.
It was when he was at university to read for Finance and Accounting that he found the Parasport programme. He came across a passion for powerlifting as well as meeting the person who would later become his coach, Camilla Thrush. He also began learning Judo and trained heavily for the sport whilst he was recovering from an implication of his surgery.
Since graduating from university, Jamie has acquired a skill in Obstacle Course Rating and has competed in over 700 Tough Mudder Courses including a 24-hour endurance race named World’s Toughest Mudder. Jamie has aspirations to represent Great Britain in discus and javelin at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. He has also started campaigning for LGBT rights within athletics as well as diversity and inclusion in which he often touches on during his after-dinner speeches. Indeed his acceptance speech for his Gold Duke of Edinburgh award was an inspiration to two hundred people in attendance.
A positive, mentally resilient and inspirational figure, Jamie Gane is an ideal candidate for influencing audiences to overcome their own obstacles and achieve their goals. He reflects on his life experiences and refers to inspirational anecdotes from his sporting career to open peoples eyes to how a ‘can-do’ mindset can allow anyone to travel a long distance in their career.
