As a child in Somalia, Jawahir was fascinated by the sport, seeing the boys in her community play. Jawahir dreams of one day refereeing for the Premier League, Champions League, or even the World Cup. She has obtained her Level 6 Refereeing Qualification as a way of getting one step closer to this dream. Revered for her work on and off the field in football, Jawahir was awarded an MBE in the 2023 New Years Honour’s List. She was also included on BBC’s 100 Women of 2019.
She set up a Girl’s Team in her community and often referees young players at the Jason Roberts Foundation. The Football Association recognized her efforts towards Football Beyond Borders – an education and social inclusion charity, extending the Respect Award to her.
