Philip Baldwin is the epitome of persevering through a life-altering disease despite what the world may think of him. Diagnosed with HIV at 24 years old, Philip did not allow the negative connotation surrounding the issue to define him. Instead, he has been fighting for a more diverse and inclusive world where people are accepting of one another. A columnist at the Gay Times today, Philip is a graduate in Modern History from the Oriel College, Oxford and an M.Phil in History of Art and Architecture from Peterhouse College, Cambridge. He is working on his semi-autobiographical book called “Positive Damage”, that revolves around stigma and how the understanding that everyone deserves to live life with dignity despite their sexuality, sex, race, disability, etc. will end the stigma. He hosts a radio show for Soho Radio and has written an HIV awareness blog for HuffPost and has been featured in Daily Mail, BBC News, Independent, and The Telegraph.
For the support he provides to charities such as Albert Kennedy Trust, Positively UK, Terrence Higgins Trust, Stonewall, Rainbow Migration, he has been lauded several times. Philip was also named a Stonewall Role Model. He is vocal about issues surrounding homelessness, LGBTQ, HIV, asylum, and faith inclusion. He is also a Trustee of the Ozanne Foundation.
A staunch believer that his HIV diagnosis led him to a life of confidence, strength, and hope, Philip wants to tell people everywhere that they too deserve to live fulfilling lives.
