Megan Rapinoe is a professional soccer player who plays for the OL Reign team in the National Women’s Soccer League. Megan is also a player for the national women's soccer team for the United States of America. An Olympic Gold Medalist and FIFA World Cup Champion, Megan is an accomplished athlete who is now available to speak at a range of events.
Hailing from California, Megan has played soccer all throughout her childhood. In her early days, she was in the Elk Grove United team of the Women’s Premier Soccer League. Soon after, she was a part of the U-19 United States Women’s team at the FIFA Women’s World Championship in 2004, that placed third in the tournament that year. Since then, she has been a part of the 2011, 2015 and 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup Championships and has also been a co-captain for the team along with Carli Lloyd and Alex Morgan. While she has been a player for many football clubs throughout her career, including the Chicago Red Stars, Megan has been a part of the OL Reign Team (formerly known as Seattle Reign) for almost a decade now.
Megan’s soccer prowess has won her the Golden Boot Award for having scored 6 goals in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup Championship. She is also the recipient of a Golden Ball Award, given to honour the best player of the tournament. Outside of her work as a soccer player, Megan is dedicated to her soccer and performance training and lifestyle apparel brand, Rapinoe SC, that she created along with her sister. Megan collaborated with Nike and had a collection with them called “Victory Redefined”. She also featured in one of Nike’s short films called “Nike: The Switch”.
An ardent activist for LGBT+ community rights and member of the community herself, Megan is working towards securing equal pay in men’s and women’s sports, thus eradicating the gender-based pay gap that exists today.
