A Professor at the Institute of Education and an Honorary Rector at the University of Lisbon, Portugal, António Nóvoa filled the position of Lisbon University’s Rector from 2006 to 2013. He earned a Ph.D. in Education from the University of Geneva in 1986, and a Ph.D. in History from the University of Paris IV – Sorbonne in 2006. He also earned four Doctorates Honoris Causa. These were from the Universities of Algarve in Portugal, Brasilia, Lusofona in Portugal, and Rio de Janeiro, also in Brazil.
