A courageous rock climber with a passion for adventure, Alex Honnold is frequently seen free-solo climbing some of America’s most perilous cliffs. His daredevil feats have seen him become one of the most recognised climbers in the world. Capturing the attention of esteemed publications, Alex has featured on the cover of National Geographic and been profiled by both 60 Minutes and the New York Times. His talents on the rock face also earned him a role in the Emmy-nominated adventure film, Alone on the Wall, amongst many other movies.
In 2017 Alex performed his most daring climbing feat. With no partner, protective gear or rope Alex scaled the wall to become the first-ever person to free-solo El Capitan, a feat considered to be one of the greatest athletic achievements of all time. He is also the holder of the Yosemite triple crown fastest ascent, climbing Mount Watkins, The Nose and the Regular Northwest Face of Half Dome. To give true justice to the astounding things that Alex had experienced, he wrote his book Alone on the Wall. The book includes an in-depth perspective of the breath-taking 3 hours and 56 minutes that he spent on the treacherous face of El Capitan, as well as a series of life lessons learnt from the cliff face that are transferable into everyday life.
His talent for climbing has made him an industry leader in his field, landing several sponsorships with the likes of The North Face, Goal Zero, La Sportiva, and Black Diamond. Through his passion for climbing, Alex has also developed a keen interest in the environment and sustainability. He took particular interest in the accessibility of solar energy and being philanthropic at heart Alex decided to donate a third of his wages to several projects that were working to make solar energy accessible worldwide. This soon progressed to him founding the Honnold Foundation, a non-profit charity to help provide grants to those increasing global solar power.
A lifetime of exploring and seeing the extraordinary has allowed Alex to gather an array of inspiring stories, making him a highly sought after keynote speaker. Covering subjects such as risk assessment, determination, drive and preparation, Alex is frequently invited to deliver speeches that prove the similarities between the risk of his climbs with the risks involved in business. Having previously delivered TED a TED talk on ‘How I Climbed a 3,000-foot Vertical Cliff – Without Ropes’, it is obvious that Alex is a respected and authoritative figure within his field. He is guaranteed to leave a lasting impression on all those lucky enough to hear his breath-taking tales.
