Former United States Air Force (USAF) Major and Pilot, Michelle Curran is admired for becoming the only female pilot in the squadron whilst she served. Beginning her service in the United States Air Force in 2009, Michelle earned her commission through the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC). Dedicating her first years in the Army to completing her pilot training with the 14th Operations Group, she then gained the opportunity to become an F-16 Fighting Falcon Student with the 308th Fighter Squadron. Having proved her skills throughout her training, she later gained three years of experience forwarding as an F-16 Instructor in the 355th Fighter Squadron, where she became the first woman to fly as part of the 335th FS.
Admired for the illustrious career she was developing, in 2019 Michelle was selected to become the Opposing Solo Pilot for the Thunderbirds. Thriving in the high-pressure environment, she advanced to become the Lead Solo Pilot, where she flew on the outer-left wing of the Delta formation of the F-16s. A key member of the team, she participated in the Blue Angles Display for the United States Navy during the COVID-19 pandemic. As the only female pilot in the squadron and the fifth female pilot in the squadron overall, her persistence and resilience to achieve her goals are treasured throughout the community.
