Attali is currently president of PlaNet Finance, a non-profit body that supports microfinance institutions internationally, and CEO of A&A, a Paris-based consulting firm.
In demand around the world as a motivational speaker, Professor Attali is well-known for his international efforts in various areas. In 1989, he was heavily involved in orchestrating a response to appalling floods in Bangladesh, having previously founded Action Contre la Faim (Action Against Hunger). After that, Attali became adviser to the Secretary General of the United Nations on the dangers associated with nuclear proliferation.
Attali was also instrumental in formulating the LMD (Licence – Master – Doctorate) system in Europe that aims to deliver ‘unified’ higher education across the EU. Based on the North American system, LMD’s three diplomas relate to a particular level of education.
Other claims to fame for the professor include founding the Eurêka new technologies programme in Europe (which created the MP3 audio coding format). He has also been special adviser to the President of the French Republic (François Mitterrand) and founder and first president of London’s European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
A truly motivational speaker, Jacques Attali has lectured on economic theory at the University of Paris-Dauphine, the École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées and the École Polytechnique. He is also a member of the Universal Academy of Cultures.
