Baroness Ruth of Bethnal Green, Director of Deeds and Words, is a revered figure in the LGBT+ community owing to the work she does for the community. Assuming the role of CEO at just 34 years old, Ruth is amongst the youngest CEOs in Britain and also is the youngest crossbench peer at just 39 years of age. She is available to hire as an after-dinner speaker and is proficient to talk about matters revolving LGBT+, Trans, Inclusion, Leadership, Diversity, Culture Transformation, Culture Change and Politics.
Ruth studied at Oxford University and was also a former President of Oxford students’ union in her time there. She obtained a fellowship from Cardiff University and was awarded honorary degrees from Keele and Exeter. In her personal life, Ruth came out as lesbian as a teenager and has focused her energy ever since on securing diversity, inclusion and equality for all. This led her to be the CEO of Stonewall where she also served as Chief Executive, Director and Deputy of Public Affairs and Head of Policy and Research. On top of being Director of Deeds and Words, that aims to create a single-mindedness amongst the LGBT+ community, Ruth was also made a member of the House of Lords and bestowed upon the title of Baroness Hunt of Bethnal Green.
Ruth’s contribution towards ensuring equality for all is commendable. To this effect she was nominated for two awards. In 2015 she was voted the third Most Influential LGBT Person in Britain on the Rainbow List and subsequently in 2019 she was voted first on the Independent Pride Power List. She has worked hard to make the trans community feel included and encouraged organisations to extend campaigns to do so as well.
Despite the personal and professional challenges Ruth has faced in her life because she was brave enough to be herself, she came out strong. She now uses her life experiences as examples to encourage and inspire people. As an after-dinner speaker, Ruth does a phenomenal job at explaining why inclusivity is so important in society and the workplace. Baroness Ruth Hunt would be an excellent choice to speak at your event about inclusion, leadership, diversity, culture transformation, culture change, politics and Trans and LGBT+ rights, so book her now!
