During a decade spent reporting from around the world Damien lived in deserts, rainforests, jungles and chaotic third world cities. In his work and travels he met and interviewed a vast array of people including diamond miners, desert nomads, uncontacted tribes, arms dealers, genocidal leaders, world presidents, heroin traffickers, rebel warlords, terrorists, mercenaries, bush doctors, soldiers, commanders and spies.
Damien was injured, and was hospitalised with bizarre tropical diseases – including flesh-eating bacteria, worms that burrow through the skin and septicaemia – but survived all that and continued to report. His entry into the world of writing came when his documentary on a young Sudanese girl being captured into slavery, and her subsequent escape, was turned into a book called Slave, published to great acclaim.
In 2006 he was chosen as one of the nation's 20 favourite authors and wrote his first fiction, Desert Claw, for the Government's Quick Read initiative. This was followed up by Cobra Gold, an equally compelling tale of global drama and intrigue and shadowy betrayal.
All these experiences and achievements have developed Damien into a quality speaker with passion and eloquence, with a focus on team management, interpersonal skills, personal development and authority. His passion and intelligence mark him as a truly inspirational motivational speaker – the unusual combination of his field of interest with issues of business and team management make him a unique and effective choice for any corporate audience.
