As a sportsman, Jason is considered an expert in achieving peak performance and reaching goals. Gardener’s career began at the World Junior Championships in 1994, he finished second place in the individual 100m and won a gold medal along with the rest of the 4 x 100m relay team. Coached by Malcolm Arnold, Jason joined the senior ranks where he took a silver medal in his first European Indoor Championships in 1998.
The 4 x 100m relay at the London Grand Prix in 2007 was Gardener’s last professional race. Although the team failed to finish, this did not impact the world's view on Jason's highly celebrated career as an athlete. It was announced in late 2013 that Jason would take part in the 100m Sprint for Faith as part of the Catholic Church’s Year of Faith.
Most recently, Gardener has won a gold medal in the 60m at the Birmingham European Indoor Championships in 2007. He has also won a gold at both the 2004 Summer Olympics and the 2002 Commonwealth Games in the 4x100m relay.
As well as sprinting, Jason took on a project to qualify four athletes from sports ranging from rugby to track cycling to take part in the British 2 Man Bobsleigh Championships. After only two weeks of training, Craig MacLean, Dan Luger, Dean Macey and Jason attempted runs down the course at Cesana Pariol in which they qualified to the finals. The story was filmed for the BBC and showed himself and Macey finish in sixth place making them the highest placed novice pair.
