Paul first shot to fame in his 1989 pro-debut season when he won the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year Award. That same year he won the Credit Lyonnaise Cannes Open on just his ninth tour appearance and from that point did not look back. Playing at the closely-fought 1991 Ryder Cup at Kiawah Island, nicknamed The War on the Shore, Paul won both his fourball alongside Ian Woosnam OBE and beat Mark O’Meara in the singles.
In 1993 he triumphed over a high class field at the Benson & Hedges International Open and followed that up in 1995 with victory at the French Open, dubbed by many as the Fifth Major. Defending a title is a rare achievement in golf but, having won the Portuguese Open in 2005, Paul returned in 2006 to lift the trophy once again. His quality can be measured by the fact that only World No.1 Rory McIlroy has ever managed to match his St. Andrews Open Championship course record of 63.
Amassing eight professional wins throughout his career, the last one at the 2006 Portuguese Open, Paul has become a wonderful after dinner and golf speaker, telling tales from his professional career and inspiring the next generation of players.
