Joycelyn Longdon is a 24-year-old PhD student in the field of AI for the study of Environmental Risks at the University of Cambridge. As the Founder of Climate in Colour, she is working towards ensuring more diversity and accessibility when it comes to addressing environmental and climate-related issues. An equal opportunity specialist, Joycelyn is passionate about diversity, art, personal and social wellness, and collaborates with the Oxford University Doctoral Training Program for Environmental Research to increase their engagement with students who identify as BIPOC or LGBTQ+. With umpteen experience in copywriting, digital marketing, content creation, event organisation, social media, etcetera from her diverse portfolio, Joycelyn is wise beyond her years. An excellent writer as well, she has contributed to platforms like Gal-Dem (a leading BAME arts and literature publication) and offers her services as a freelance copywriter, digital marketer, and web designer. Taking an interdisciplinary approach to her PhD research, combining Machine Learning (ML), Bioacoustics, Forest Ecology, Indigenous Knowledge, she is bound for greatness.
With a bachelor’s degree in Astrophysics from Cardiff University, MRed in Artificial Intelligence for Environmental Risk from the University of Cambridge, and now her PhD, Joycelyn has had a stellar academic journey. She has been a physics and marketing intern before she became a Digital Marketing Executive for MVF. Joycelyn was also the Head of Community and Growth at Ferly and is currently a Copywriter at Trippin World. Also keen on championing human connection and diversifying the creative industry, Joycelyn is the Founder and Creative Director of BLACKONBLACK. In the course of her career, Joycelyn has forged professional relationships with organisations like Meta, Estee Lauder, Samsung, and Greenpeace.
