Yoshua Bengio is in his thirtieth year as a Professor at Universite de Montreal. Highly educated himself, he completed his B.Eng in Computer Science, MSc in Computer Science from McGill University, and PhD in Computer Science from McGill University. Recipient of the Lifetime Achievement award from the Canadian AI Association in 2018, Yoshua is considered as one of the three Godfathers of AI along with Geoffrey Hinton and Yann LeCun.
Yoshua is growing concerned about the trajectory on which AI is heading – stating discombobulation over his life’s work. He believes that the path AI is on could lead to the extinction of humanity and also called for the necessary regulation of AI. Afraid that bad actors may have access to AI, he suggests that all companies that want to build powerful AI products should be registered, and that ethical training must be instated. He has also contributed largely to the Montreal Declaration for the Responsible Development of Artificial Intelligence.
Yoshua is a recipient of the A.M. Turing Award, akin to the Nobel Prize in the field of computing. He is also a recipient of the Killam Prize and an IEEE Neural Networks Pioneer Award. Having won these, it’s needless to say that Yoshua is revered for his contributions to artificial neural networks and deep learning. He is also famed as the computer scientist with the highest h-index in the world, which means his publications are regarded greatly, having been cited more than any other computer scientist worldwide. He has been the Co-Founder and Scientific Director of Mila at the Quebec AI Institute since 2018.
A Fellow at the Royal Society of London and Canada, Co-Chair of the AI Advisory Council in Canada, and Co-Director of the CIFAR Learning in Machines & Brains program, he has also been the Scientific Director of IVADO. He has previously been a Machine Learning Researcher at MIT and AT&T Labs as well. Yoshua Bengio can now be booked to speak at your next event, where he will share his unparalleled expertise on AI, its application, its possibilities and the need for its immediate regulation.
