Mustafa Suleyman is best known for his work as the Co-Founder and Head of Applied AI at DeepMind. After DeepMind was acquired by Google, Mustafa assumed the role of VP of AI Product Management & AI Policy at Google. Passionate about governments finding solutions for the bourgeoning unemployment numbers as a result of AI development, he has worked closely work with the UN, the Dutch Government and WWF on these matters. Mustafa now uses his platform as a speaker to deliver stellar talks on AI ethics and other related subjects.
Mustafa has led a long and successful career. After he decided that his education at the University of Oxford was not something he wanted to pursue, Mustafa decided to run a non-profit telephone counselling service. In 2007, he became a Co-Founder and Partner at Reos Partners. It was in 2010 that he co-founded DeepMind, running it for nearly ten years. In this time, DeepMind’s machine learning algorithm helped reduce the energy required to cool down Google’s data centres by 40%.
As the former CEO and Co-Founder of Inflection AI, Mustafa worked on the first AI-based personal Assistant called Pi which is meant to be far more conversational and emotionally supportive than its contemporaries. Due to his genius, Mustafa has received the 2019 Silicon Valley Visionary Award and an MBE in 2019 for his influence in the UK technology sector. Today, Mustafa is a Senior Fellow at the Belfer Centre for Science and International Affairs at the Harvard Kennedy School. Most recently, in March 2024, Mustafa took on the role of CEO of Microsoft AI, pioneering artificial intelligence at the renowned technology giant.
