Alistair founded his journalistic career studying in the subjects of current affairs journalism, social policy and politics. Alongside his studies, Alistair took on the challenge of work experience at the Dorset Echo. This work experience sparked an interest in the world of journalism for Alistair, and he has never looked back since. Whilst studying at the University of Bristol, Alistair shared his time with radio stations such as BBC Radio Bristol and BBC Somerset Sound. When he studied further at the City University of London, Alistair began working for BBC News as a reporter on the BBC One O’clock News. He then accepted a role working as a journalist for ITV Thames Valley, leaving him now able to say that he has worked for some of the largest broadcasting corporations in the UK.
Alistair joined the media giant Sky in 2007, initially accepting a role as a reporter for Sky News. This role saw Alistair report across the globe, from Westminster to Sudan and Denmark Alistair has covered some of the most topical subjects worldwide. In 2009 he reported on the MP Expenses Scandal and in 2011 he reported on the Norwegian twin terror attacks. In 2010 Alistair was appointed a specific role, accepting the position of Business Correspondent for Sky News. This role saw Alistair broaden his journalistic expertise, reporting on various business topics such as the Eurozone Crisis.
In 2014 Alistair was appointed his current role, now acting as the Defence and Security Correspondent for Sky News. His role demands him to cover various topical subjects, including conflicts and natural disasters. One of his first deployments in the role was to the Philippines, reporting on the colossal typhoon Haiyan that devastated the country and the relief effort that was being given to those affected. Alistair has also reported on countless conflicts across the breadth of Afghanistan, South Sudan, Iraq and Yemen. His role has allowed Alistair to work amongst various intelligence agencies, interviewing countless leading officers, diplomats and generals along the way.
With such a career, Alistair is confident and personable in public speaking engagements. Reporting across hostile environments and devastating scenes, Alistair has seen both incredible and terrible things.
