A thrill-seeking, adrenaline and speed-loving 16-year-old, Alex borrowed a powerful motorbike which he was not meant to ride. Aiming to reach a top speed of 125mph, he lost control of the vehicle, hitting a wall in full force leaving him a quadriplegic. Whilst adapting to his disability, Alex promised his family that he would defy the odds against his condition and achieve great things. A year and a half down the line, he fought for the mobility of his arms for complete independence at a rehabilitation centre which he then left 18 months later to study marketing at university.
In 2005, he pursued his youthful dream of owning a night club in Brussels, three years later he sold it to create VIP Belgium, an agency that organises reputable events and represents Belgian culture abroad. Alex plans around 20 events during the Cannes Film Festival every year and worked alongside over 200 European and international celebrities.
Always being a keen traveller before and after his accident, Alexandre couldn’t help but notice the difficulty for those travelling with a disability, although he is a determined individual himself he felt empathy for those in a less fortunate situation and the many issues there are for those with reduced mobility. Putting his plan forward to experts skilled in the matter, Alex was successful in receiving a grant and began forming the Wheeling Around the World Foundation. With the likes of Nikos Aliagas as patron of the foundation, they managed to receive strong media coverage and officially launched in 2013 at a charity gala in Brussels.
Alexandre is a considerate and inspirational figure. He fights back at any obstacle in his way with admirable resilience. An attitude perfect for a motivational speech at any corporate event.
