Before Mark became an explorer, he served in the British Army. A member of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers in the Second Battalion, Mark built his strong and resilient character and was also awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal. Upon leaving military service, Mark decided to pursue a career as a firefighter. Joining the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, Mark learnt to make decisions under immense pressure, a subject in which he is able to deliver as a public speaker.
Since 2003 Mark has dedicated his life to exploring and leading expeditions across the globe. Mark has now completed over 30 incredible expeditions, from the magnetic North Pole and Geomagnetic North Pole to the South Pole surviving solo in some of the harshest polar environments. A keen advocate of raising awareness of climate change, Mark embarks on his polar expeditions to show the effects of climate change on the world. In a bid to further his advocacy, Mark has worked alongside broadcasters such as the BBC and Channel 5 to produce documentaries that emphasise the threat of global warming and climate change.
Recently Mark has begun to deliver talks as a professional speaker. He is particularly passionate about delivering talks to the budding future generations, visiting schools to inspire the youth to take interest in climate change and the fate of their planet. Mark is also a virtual speaker, creating virtual classrooms that students can join via Skype to listen to his lessons of actionable change. Ranked as one of the top 5 communicators on Skype, Mark has connected with children in 34 different countries and travelled over 3 million Skype miles. To further his empowerment of younger generations, Mark is also an ambassador of The Prince’s Trust and a Scout leader.
As a public speaker, Mark delivers talks packed with lessons on leadership, teamwork and making decisions under pressure. With each expedition of Mark’s drawing attention to the threat of climate change, Mark uses his public speaking engagements to further raise awareness of the cause and make sure that people are encouraged to make positive changes in their lives to change the fate of the world’s climate. Mark is able to draw similarities between his time spent in polar environments to the daily challenges that are faced within the business world. Due to this, Mark is frequently sought by corporate clients to engage employees through thought-provoking and inspirational speeches.
