Martin Lewis is one of the UK’s most trusted and influential voices on money, financial rights and consumer protection. Best known as the founder of MoneySavingExpert.com and presenter of The Martin Lewis Money Show, he has spent more than two decades helping the public navigate personal finance with clarity and confidence. The Economist has described him as “one of Britain’s most recognisable figures” and possibly “the most influential man in British politics”, reflecting his major impact on national financial policy and public behaviour.
Martin’s career began in journalism after studying at the London School of Economics, where he later became General Secretary of the Students’ Union. He completed his postgraduate training in journalism at Cardiff University before joining the BBC, producing for the Business Unit at Radio Five Live and later delivering business segments on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme. He soon moved into on-screen personal finance reporting, appearing on shows such as Open House with Gloria Hunniford, and later as a reporter for BBC Breakfast News.
His big breakthrough came in 2003 when he launched MoneySavingExpert.com, which became the UK’s largest consumer finance website. Martin sold the site in 2012 to the Moneysupermarket Group while remaining its guiding voice for editorial content and campaigning work. Alongside this, he has become a familiar television presence — appearing on This Morning, Good Morning Britain and leading prime-time programmes including Make Me Rich, It Pays to Watch! and special editions of ITV’s Tonight. Since 2012, he has co-presented his flagship programme, The Martin Lewis Money Show, helping millions make informed financial decisions.
A passionate advocate for financial fairness, Martin has driven policy change on issues from energy bills to bank charges, student finance and financial education in schools. His writing spans national newspapers including the Sunday Times, The Guardian and the News of the World, and he continues to contribute opinion columns across the UK press. Honoured with both an OBE (2014) and CBE (2022), he has won multiple broadcasting awards, including the National Television Award for Best TV Expert (2022) and the RTS Special Award (2024). Today, Martin remains a leading campaigner, broadcaster and consumer champion, dedicated to ensuring everyone has access to honest, accurate and life-changing financial guidance.
