John Francome started his jockey career at the age of 16 when he was an apprentice for Lambourn trainer, Fred Winter. Despite not coming from a family of jockeys, he rode the astounding total of 1,138 winners, up until April of 1985 when he retired from racing. Over the course of his career, John was Champion Jockey 7 times, starting in 1976. At the peak of his active jockey career, he won the Gold Cup at Cheltenham on Midnight Court, in 1978.
John has always been infatuated with racehorses. With their sheer power, agile precision and fearless trust in the rider, it is easy to respect them.
