Hayley Mulenda, a graduate of the University of Kent and University of Sussex, is also the author of “ABC’s to Student Success” where she relays the importance of authority, being still and competence. Having experienced incredible lows trying to manage her education, business and personal life, Hayley now has a new lease on life where she is focused on wellbeing, vulnerability, and personal development. Wanting to share this philosophy with others, Hayley is now available to speak at a range of corporate events in hopes that she can help her peers and the next generation learn how to navigate their mental health journeys.
Making it to the 4th position in the Top 10 Black Student in the UK by Rare Recruitment, it is unfathomable that there was a time when Hayley wanted to end her life as she was under the burden of her studies amongst other things. As a mental health advocate and change agent, Hayley has been utilizing any platform available to her to share her perspective on why people must take their mental health seriously. To this effect, she hosts a podcast called “Building You” where she tries to explain how one should “grow through life” as opposed to simply going through life. She has also featured on some episodes of BBC Radio 1’s Podcasts and in the Huffington Post. In 2017, Hayley served as the Founder and CEO of the Building You Masterclass that is conducted in London every month and features special guests. The Masterclass is designed to foster an environment where people feel encouraged to be better people.
Her work has led her to be named as one of the Most Influential and Inspirational Black Entrepreneur in the UK Under 21. She also received the Positive for Youth Inspire Award, the Best Congo Award for Best Author/Writer in 2018 and was a runner-up of the 2017 Queen Young Leader award. Hayley is also no stranger to speaking at bigger stages such as those of the Wembley Arena, Oslo Spektrum and The Houses of Parliament. She uses her unique strategy that explains the issues concerning Gen-Z’s and Millennials to those in senior leadership positions. As a result, she has worked with companies like Harrods, Google, KPMG, JP Morgan, the UK Cabinet Office, Microsoft and other FTSE 100 and Fortune 500 companies. Also collaborating with personalities such as Melinda Gates, Rupert McNeil, Thomas Heier, and Gavriella Schuster, she is a pioneer in her field and also a recipient of the Jack Petchey Achievement Award.
The TED Talk speaker of “The Danger of Being a Role Model”, Hayley is also a Brand Board Member of Wagamama Restaurants, a Governor at St Angela’s Ursuline School and President of the Youth Advisory Board – all roles where her expertise in the Gen-Z psyche come in handy. She has also been a Camp Counsellor at YMCA in the Greater New York area, a Youth Councillor and Young Mayor Candidate for the London Borough of Newham and an Ambassador for One Young World.
