Rusty Firmin has led an illustrious career, having joined the Field Regiment Royal Artillery at the age of 17. An operations consultant, security trainer and firearms trainer, he is an excellent motivational speaker too. 27 years in the British army has equipped Rusty with some of the most unique experiences, that he is now available to share with his audience when booked as a speaker.
Having led a difficult childhood, living with multiple relatives, and attending several schools, Rusty was responsible for his own life very early on. In his time as a Patrol Commander, he completed several tours of Northern Ireland, involving himself in adventure training. He completed the Italian Alps and French Pyrenees walk and has also completed the Great Divide trail walk in Canada. In 1977 he became part of the B Squadron of the SAS. It was during this period that he embarked on tours to Malaya, Brunei, Belize, Borneo, Botswana, the Middle East, Northern Ireland, and the Falkland Islands. A qualified paramedic and demolitionist too, Rusty has worked the world over.
A trusted expert, Rusty has been a security advisor to Mel Gibson during the making of Braveheart. He has also been a bodyguard for the Japanese embassy in Afghanistan, offered personal protection to the Japanese ambassador at Kabul’s Japanese embassy, and to the American swimming team in Athens during the Olympics. He has also served as a Security Manager for Mobil Oil Company in Algeria and worked as a Road Security Adviser for Mark Hughes, CEO and Founder of Herbalife International. An author too, Rusty has written “Go! Go! Go! The SAS. The Iranian Embassy Siege. The True Story” and “The Regiment: 15 Years in the SAS”.
Rusty is considered one of the highest-qualified security training specialists, especially given his experience as a residential security team member for numerous dignitaries and VIPs.
