Inspirational survivor of the 7/7 London bombings, Martine Wright has rebuilt her life following one of the most harrowing events in recent British history. From losing both legs to representing her country in the Paralympics, Martine has not just survived but thrived since staring death in the face. A highly sought-after speaker, Martine has spoken to hundreds of audiences about overcoming adversity, establishing mental resilience, and feeling empowered through challenging times. An experienced presenter with a captivating story, Martine’s talks are thought-provoking and motivate each individual to reach for their goals, as Martine has since her accident.
Waking up late on the 7th of July 2005, Martine Wright did not think such an insignificant moment could prove nearly fatal. Choosing to take the Circle Line on the London underground to work, Martine unknowingly sat three feet from a suicide bomber, who detonated a bomb at the same time as three others around London. Directly in line with the impact of the explosion, Martine was trapped for over an hour whilst those less injured were rescued. Losing both her legs, 80% of her blood and her hopes for the future, Martine only just survived. Following a gruelling year of rehabilitation, Martine not only suffered physically but mentally from the experience, having to harness mental resilience to rebuild her life and learn to walk again using prosthetics.
Determined to not let the incident definer her, Martine turned to sports to aid her rehabilitation, finding a passion and talent for sitting volleyball. Only four years after the attack, Martine was selected to represent Great Britain in the sport, and she was part of the GB sitting volleyball team at the London 2012 Paralympic Games, a testament to her resilience in the face of adversity. Since she has become a regular sports presenter for the BBC and Channel 4 at such events as the Invictus Games. Empowering others to redefine their potential, Martine is also an ambassador for sport for the disabled and has published her book ‘Unbroken’.
Recognised with the Helen Rollason award at the Sports Personality of the Year 2012 an MBE for her services to sports and amputee athletes, Martine’s influence is undeniable. Currently, she acts as a charity patron and mentor, inspiring others with her journey. Driven by her positive outlook, Martine has not only led an incredible life but now supports corporate clients and individuals in achieving their goals through compelling keynote talks. Having previously spoken both live to more than 10,000 at the O2, industry-leading businesses and on virtual events, there is no better motivational speaker than Martine.
