Dr Julia Shaw has enjoyed a successful career as a criminal psychologist, having also educated future generations of psychologists in her decorated educational career. Currently a Psychological Scientist and Research Associate at University College London, Dr Julia is also a best-selling author and renowned for her concepts on false memories, the ‘evil’ and bisexuality. Gaining a PhD in Psychology at The University of British Columbia, Dr Julia began her career as a Lecturer at the University of Waterloo. Building her credibility as a lecturer, Julia went on to become a Lecturer at The University of British Columbia and a Lecturer in Forensic Psychology at the University of Bedfordshire. In 2015, she began a role as a Senior Lecturer and Criminology Course Director at London South Bank University. Two years later, in 2017, Julia co-founded Spot, a company dedicated to encouraging people to report workplace harassment and discrimination – supporting her passions for diversity and inclusion.
Outside of being a lecturer, Julia is also a published best-selling author, releasing her first book The Memory Illusion: Remembering, Forgetting and the Science of False Memory in 2016. She is also the author of Making Evil: The Science Behind Humanity’s Dark Side, published in 2019. In 2022, she is set to release her third book, titled Bi: The Science, History and Culture of Bisexuality. After releasing The Memory Illusion, Julia’s book was used as inspiration for the German TV show 8 Zeugen, with the protagonist of the show based on Dr Julia herself. Julia is also the co-host of the Bad People podcast and contributes a variety of articles on the subject of criminal psychology to publications, such as the BBC.
