Wiebe Wakker is the poster boy for sustainability, having embarked on a long drive from the Netherlands to Australia in an electric vehicle. Starting in 2016, it took Wiebe three years, 33 countries, and 95,000 odd kilometers to make it to Sydney, Australia. Eager to share more about what he learned from this cathartic experience Wiebe can now be hired as a speaker for a wide range of events.
Obtaining his BA in Arts and Economics from Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht, Wiebe worked in Event Marketing at UDC Events and IJskoud, organising the Dance Valley Festival and Winter Wonderland respectively. He then started his own event company, serving as the Founder of KlaarWakker, one that dreamt, thought, and created campaigns and events.
In 2016, Wiebe decided to set off on the “Plug Me In” project – a road trip in an electric car from the Netherlands to Australia, that was powered by the thousands of people he met along the way. He survived on the food he was offered, slept in the people’s homes, and if not in his car, and received donations to fix his car when it needed to be fixed. He used this opportunity to interview sustainable initiatives, ministers, and ambassadors asking them pertinent questions about the environmental challenges in their countries and how they intend to combat the climate change issue.
Garnering interest from all over the world, Wiebe has been featured on the likes of BBC, National Geographic, CNN, The Guardian, Top Gear, and BuzzFeed. He also went around talking to schools, universities, embassies, and NGOs about the importance of sustainability. Wiebe believes education about the subject is the key to a low-carbon future. Now he shares his story with companies like Heineken, Volkswagon, Shell, Nordic EV Summit, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, LinkedIn, Michelin, PWC, Dubai Expo 2020, Coca-Cola, and Fully Charged Outside, and is also available to do so with your audience.
