David Carroll is an associate professor for Parsons formerly rising to fame as a key challenger of the Cambridge Analytica Scandal. Also featuring in the Netflix documentary The Great Hack, David is widely known for challenging Cambridge Analytica as part of the UK High Court, challenging them for breaching the 1998 Data Protection Act. Throughout his career, David has worked in technology and design, formerly the Director of the MFA Design and Technology graduate programme for Parsons New School for Design. David also has a strong background of creating commercial multimedia campaigns, which allows him to speak on a variety of topics from design to technology and digital disruption as a public speaker today.
After studying at the Parson School of Design and graduating in design and technology, David became a Multimedia Director for the company Thoughtbubble. David began to build his knowledge of the creative sectors, later going on to work as a Multimedia Director for Second Thought Inc. In 2010, David re-joined the Parsons School of Design, this time as a director, not a student. During his time as Director of the MFA Design and Technology programme David was responsible for overseeing students to graduate from the course and ensure their success. For a short period of time, David moved to Paris, where he acted as an associate professor for the media and technology programme at Parsons Paris.
Throughout his career, David has researched extensively into new digital media. He is particularly interested in mobile devices and software, researching into interaction and social engagement. In support of his passion for new mobile digital media, David was able to found the Centre for Mobile Creativity. Along the course of his career, David has been fortunate to work with countless high-profile companies, including the likes of Fox, HBO, Sony, Sports Illustrated, Warner Bros and CNN to name but a few. Currently, David is acting as the Associate Professor of Media Design at The New School, where he is working to pioneer the future of new digital media.
